Value Consistency across Relational Roles and Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction: The Mediating Role of Self-Concept Clarity

Living in today’s complex social world can contribute to the development of a multi-faceted personal identity and risk dispersion. This study focused on values, which are conceptualised as core one’s identity. It aimed explore within-person value consistency across relational roles (i.e., relationships with parents, partners, friends) analyse association between consistency, self-concept clarity, basic psychological needs satisfaction. One hundred ninety-five Italian young adults (F = 85%; Mage 26.65, SD 3.83) participated study. They completed Values Context Questionnaire, Self-Concept Clarity Scale, satisfaction subscale from Basic Needs Satisfaction Frustration Scale. Findings showed high consistencies roles. Specifically, is higher when values partner friend considered. Moreover, relation was fully mediated by clarity. Limitations study, future research developments, practical implications results discussed.
